Bestest Buy

My old HP laptop died about three months ago. Fortunately, it decided to crap out exactly 3 days before the extended warranty ran out! Even better, is that I took that old laptop into repairs more than 3 times, so it was concidered a lemon under the warranty policy. When I took the laptop in, the “Geek Squad” *shudder* guys where amused at the excellent timing of the demise. Then the Geek Squad guy told me I could pick out ANY laptop in the store. I was tempted to get a Mac, but I didn’t feel like converting stuff to another format. So, I settled on a Vaio.

When I went to pay, I thought I was just getting the initial $1700 sticker price credited as I used up my warranty. But the part-time uncomissioned cashier refunded the extended warranty ($300) plus the recycling fee, and obviously something more by accident; because I got a $3000 gift card. o__O To top that off, I used my reward card, and will be getting $60 worth of Best Buy certificates. heh heh heh.The new Vaio is nice because I can actually travel with it. It’s 15.4″ wide, and a inch thick closed. I do hate Vista, but have configured it so it preforms like XP now. It’s really powerful, and has a Blu-Ray burner though! So I’m glad my other laptop died. The only regret I have is I lost my sticker collection that was on it. ;__;

Grand Theft Auto 4

I’ve been playing GTA 4 for a week now, and I find the game pretty underwhelming. All the reviews I’ve read gave the game a 10/10 or similar glowing reviews. Was there a payoff? There is so technically wrong with the game, it would be deserving of a 7 tops.

The game is waaaay too buggy to deserve that perfect review. I could not even load the game on the PS3 the first weekend I got it until I read that you have to disable the internet completely or else it would freeze up. What the heck? For the money and effort going into the most hyped game ever, they should have at least worked out a major bug like that. A patch was released a little under a week after the problem was addressed, and works fine now. I also have a problem with the lack of interactive scenery. The blatant GTA: San Adreas clone Saint’s Row was actually a really fun game with probably twice the amount of open buildings than GTA 4, and the map was about 1/3 as large. This makes Liberty city a very barren place. The people and places are very sparse.

It is a fun game, but it’s not leaps and bounds greater the PS2 versions. It’s a bit glossier ad smoother, but it’s not the cinematic masterpiece video game reviewers make it out to be.

She’s So Cute!

David’s namesake doll is just perfect!

Rufus Blue Dynamite Girl

His dolls are all very cute, but Rufus Blue is perfection. She’s available from FDQ’s website. She’s from the Dynamite Girl line, so her price shoud be around $40.

So, I’m finally back here. It feels like forever since my last post, so here’s a update on what I’ve been up to:

-I’ve since moved and settled in my new apartment.

-I Finally got a XBox 360, followed by a HDTV. Dead Rising is exactly how boxing day is at West Edmonton Mall.

-Pittsburgh (FR Convention) was alright. I felt like I didn’t enjoy it as much as some people did. Forget doll conventions, I’m going to Japan next.

-The job is still fun.

-Paying for school sucks.

Resident Typewriter

I want this:

But also want this:

It’s the OFFICIAL RESIDENT EVIL TYPEWRITER! But is only included with Leon in his Resident Evil 4 clothes. Typewriter, or the RPD outfit? I’m torn.

FR Convention!!!

I’ll be going to Pittsburgh next Wednesday morning. But I have a class on Tuesday night. And I need a haircut. And I need to buy formalwear. And I need to pack. And I’m looking for an apartment. Etc…
Does anyone know Pittsburgh well? Any interesting sights?

FR Convention ‘07??

Marty wants to go. *packs bags*

FR Convention ‘07?

Maybe my brain is fried, but the thought of going to Pittsburgh for the FR convention crossed my mind. Why? The convention doll line-up sounds great! It’s chock full of Model Behavior girls, a new Model Behavior boy, AND a Francisco & Kyori giftset! See, if I miss out on something I want, I could always find someone willing to sell their convention doll (for an inflated price). But I would get to see some people I would like to meet in person.

So I did some reasearch, and found out that I can stay at the Sheraton 6 miles away for $29/night with my discount. It got more tempting…

Hotel: $132.24 (including taxes)
Flights: $554.01×2 (including taxes)
Convention fee: $400 (includes some convention dolls/goodies for two)
= $1086.25 or $1640.26 for two.

Well, that’s not that bad, but will Marty wanna go to Pittsburgh for a doll convention? Do I really want to spend a week with FR nutzos? Is there any exciting things to do/see in Pittsburgh? Should I just save for a real vacation where we could chill? Hmmmmmm…

C’Mon Capcom!

Capcom has registered a new game patent Apollo Justice in Japan; it is unclear whether it is a new installment of Project Justice / Rival Schools or a brand new title.

It better be a Rival Schools sequel. Or else…!
